Mr. Toms K Thomas, Global Director

Mr. Toms K Thomas is a postgraduate from Erasmus University (Institute of Social Studies), The Netherlands and is presently based in Kerala in South India. He comes with over 20 years of extensive experience in Public Health. Tom is associated with many development organizations, universities and research institutions both in India and Abroad. He is Visiting Health Economist at the School of Public Health, SRM University and is founded two development organizations apart from many health projects. Toms has been awarded many national and international fellowships. He is alumni of Erasmus University, Netherlands Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, University of Kerala (India), University of Pune (India). Some of the International Awards include, Netherlands Fellowship Program (Dutch Government), DGDC (Belgium Government), CIMO Fellowship (Finnish Government), Master Card Fellowship etc.

Prof. Sathish Kumar

Prof. Satish Kumar Chetlapalli completed his ‘International Masters in Health Leadership’ from the McGill University Canada and PhD from National Institute of Health and Family Welfare New Delhi and Punjabi University in Patiala. Satish has more than 28 years of experience in the field of public health. He started his public health career through various community based research projects as a Research Officer in the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare. He has traveled, lived and worked in the tribal areas of Orissa extensively as part of his community engagement. Prof. Satish joined the Indian Institute of Health Management Research in Jaipur and worked there for more than 10 years as faculty and researcher. During his tenure there he has worked closely with the communities in Rajasthan. He has played a crucial role in the conduct of Reproductive and Child Health national level surveys. He has also done pioneering work in the field of understanding masculinity and its role in domestic violence. His work in the field of Nutrition and RNTCP has also been noteworthy. He established the School of Public Health at SRM University in 2007. The school is running in its 9th year now. It has four programs, Masters in Public Health, Masters in Biostatistics & Epidemiology, Masters in Clinical Trials, MBA-MPH Dual Degree program and Associate Fellowship in Industrial Health. His effort for the school has taken the school to rapid growth over a very short period of time. Under his able leadership he has conducted international level conferences and workshops and forged international collaborations for the school. He has also obtained several research grants for the school from ICMR, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNDP and other funding agencies.

Mr. Denny John

Mr. Denny John has over a decade of experience across various health domains, such as project management, hospital management, health services research, project evaluation, training, and advocacy. He has published extensively, with over 20 publications, including 9 publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. In the field of ophthalmology, he has research publications in the field of eye care management and delivery, cost effectiveness analysis of glaucoma screening, and meta-analysis studies on retinopathy of prematurity. He is reviewer for journals such as Medical Decision Making, Value in Health-Asia Regional Issue, International Journal of Medicine and Public Health, and is on the Editorial Board of International Journal of Excellence in Healthcare Management. He has been a Principal Investigator for several studies conducted across Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh. He has been a visiting faculty with several institutes such as ICARE-LVPEI, ICFAI-Hyderabad, SIES College of Management Sciences-Navi Mumbai, and Goa Institute of Management. His research interests are: Evidence Synthesis (Decision Analytic Modelling, Systematic Reviews, Meta-Analysis, Network Meta-Analysis), Health Technology Assessment, Infectious disease modeling, Health Financing in Developing Countries, Health Services Research, and Implementation Research. He has been awarded fellowships and awards from national and international organizations for his contribution to the non-profit sector in India. He has a Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy from Mangalore University, MBA (Hospital Management) from IHMR, Jaipur, and Master of Public Health (MPH) from University of Auckland, New Zealand. He is a recipient of the Commonwealth Scholarship for his MPH studies. Dr. Erhard Berner

Dr. Erhard Berner is Associate Professor of Development Sociology at the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, The Netherlands. He has done extensive research on urban poverty and community responses in several countries in Africa, South and Southeast Asia, and published a book and numerous articles on the subject. He has also served as a consultant to UN-Habitat, international and Dutch NGOs and government institutions in the fields of urban poverty, housing, basic services, and small enterprise promotion. Current research focuses on urban governance, informal housing, microenterprises and poverty alleviation. Teaching experience includes Ateneo de Manila University, Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, University of Namibia in Windhoek, and Nsamizi Institute in Mpigi, Uganda.

Mr. Azmal Hossain

Mr. Md. Azmal Hossain is a graduate of Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp and has been working in the public health sector for nearly 17 years of which more than 11 years in an international NGO managing projects in the fields of reproductive health and family planning, maternal health, child rights and education, micro-enterprise development and water supply, hygiene and sanitation. Mr. Hossain is skilled and experienced in programme management, capacity building, policy analysis, advocacy, knowledge management, behavior change communication, fund raising, coordination, partnership & networking, monitoring & evaluation, research and gender etc. He has provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of the Government of Bangladesh in many occasions in the reinvigoration of the long acting and permanent family planning methods (LA/PMs) use in Bangladesh. He has contributed to the adaptation of the Counseling for Maternal and Newborn Health Care: A Handbook for building skills in Bangladesh context, development of Bangladesh Population Policy 2012, designed LAPM strategy including BCC strategic approach, drawn campaigns and developed BCC materials on several occasions.

Dr. Dinesh Bantwal Baliga

Dr. Dinesh Bantwal Baliga graduated from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune in 1985. He has a vast clinical experience in surgical branches especially accidents and emergencies, orthopaedics in various hospitals in Delhi, and has also published a number of articles on Lithotripsy. He has worked for the Ministry of Health in Libya. On his return from Libya in 1998, he completed his post-graduate degree in Hospital and Health Management and since then he has been working in the field of Public Health. Dr.Baliga has also worked in the World Health Organisation as a Surveillance Officer in the National Polio Surveillance Project until 2002. He later joined a British Charity Organisation Skillshare International as a Public Health Specialist (Health Trainer/Development Worker) and carried out field work in remote, tribal areas of Kalahandi and Koraput districts (Odisha, India) with the aim to serve the poor and develop strategies for sustainable development amongst people living below the poverty line. He has set up Community Health Programs in many remote areas of Odisha, Uttarakhand, Jharkahand, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.

Dr. Saravanan VS

Dr. Saravanan.V.S is Senior Researcher at the the Department of Social and Cultural Change at the Center for Development Research (ZentrumfürEntwicklungsforschung), University of Bonn/Germany. He has interdisciplinary qualifications from universities in India, United Kingdom and Australia. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Applied Geography from University of Madras, Master of Philosophy from University of Cambridge (UK) and PhD from university of Queensland (Australia).At ZEF, he leads the water and health research at the Center and a Research Working Group on ‘Metabolism of Urban Water and its Health Implications’ under the Water Science Alliance (WSA), Germany. He specializes on new institutionalism, systems approach, geo-statistical analysis, integrated water management and socio-epidemiology which he draws on to analyze water-related health risk in rapidly growing economies, in South and Central Asia.

Dr. Natalja Istomina

Natalja Istomina is a Doctor of Health Sciences graduated from University of Turku (Finland) in 2011. Since 2001, she has worked as a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Klaipeda University (Lithuania). In addition, Natalja has an experience in the participation of the national and international (European Commission Taiex programme, Baltic Sea region programme, WHO Healthy City Network, etc) projects and programmes. Since 2005, she worked as a vice-dean for development and international affairs at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Natalja has published 56 publications in Lithuanian and International scientific journals, 2 methodological books. She is a member of European Academy of Nursing Science (EANS) and elected member of Klaipeda city municipality Council, Chair of Health Care Commission. Since October 2014, Natalja Istomina is a vice-minister of Ministry of Education and Science, Republic of Lithuania.

Mr. Y. Geevarghese

We call him as Varghese. Varghese is a health activist with over 35 years of experience with mission hospitals across in India. He worked with many Missionary Health care organizations in India and is now associated with Olive Touch Health Care as a Full Time Director. Varghese handled many different responsibilities including, administrative, supervisory roles, managerial roles etc. He has been with pharmacy and Diagnostic Centre Stock management for over 20 years and his expertise in Medical stock management will be an asset for this project.
